Mount Cabot, Bulge, and Horn loop hike

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Sat January 27, 2018

Join us in the northern White Mountains for loop around Mount Cabot, Bulge, and the Horn. This 11.1 mile lightly trafficked loop trail, located near Berlin, New Hampshire, covers some steep terrain. The trip may involve significant trail breaking and is likely to be a fun challenge and a long day in winter conditions. We will be climbing more than 3,100 feet, but will mostly be in the trees. You must be in good shape, own appropriate winter gear, and have winter hiking experience to participate in this hike. We plan to hike at an moderate but steady pace (1.5-2.0MPH). Note the northern location of this loop and plan your travel accordingly. Traveling some or all of the way on Friday evening may be preferable for some participants.

Maine Peakbagging Weekend

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Sat January 27, 2018 - Sun January 28, 2018

Two challenging winter hikes are on the agenda for this weekend visit to the Rangeley/Stratton area, with as many as 5 4K peaks and 1 Hundred Highest peak in the crosshairs:

(1) We will summit South Crocker Mt. (4050') and Mt. Redington (4010'), hiking 11 miles (includes approximately 2 miles of road walking, and 5 miles of mild bushwhacking) and gaining 3400' of elevation. Depending on time, conditions and group stamina, we may also opt to hike an additional two miles with another 1000' of elevation gain to include (North) Crocker Mt. (4228').

(2 - Sunday) We will hike 11 miles and gain 2600' of elevation to summit South Horn (3805') on Bigelow Mt. Optionally depending on time, conditions and stamina, we may also choose to summit North Horn (3792') and/or West Peak (4145'), and/or Avery Peak (4088') via an additional 4.2 miles and 1600' of elevation gain for the full monte.

These hikes are a good fit for strong hikers with significant winter experience. You can choose to join us for one or both days. Depending on the weather forecast closer in, Bigelow Mt.'s exposure may cause us to flip the Saturday and Sunday hikes.
