Jay Peak Front and Backcountry

Skiing Date: Fri February 28, 2020 - Sun March 1, 2020

A weekend of skiing around Jay Peak Vermont. Ski Jay resort on Saturday and backcountry on Sunday (optional). Stay at house nearby and eat meals prepared by group. $200 per person for lodging and meals (lift pass extra). The house has several king & queen beds, so bring your spouse or partner for additional $100 (50% off!).
Jay peak in northern Vermont is 9 miles from the border with Quebec. The elevation and westerly flow from Great Lakes provides consistent, quality snow and abundant glades to ski. There are not many requirements for this trip, since we are skiing a downhill area. The group will likely split into subgroups of similar pace and ability, with 1-2 groups skiing glades. You will need suitable gear for Sunday's backcountry tour and be capable of skiing lower-angle glades. Skiing Jay on Sunday is also an option. Of course, all plans will be subject to snow conditions.

Backcountry weekend at Chittenden Brook Hut and Brandon Gap

Skiing Date: Fri March 6, 2020 - Sun March 8, 2020

Check out one of Vermont's newer gems: the Brandon Gap backcountry ski zones and Chittenden Brook Hut. Friday and Saturday nights we'll be staying at the Vermont Huts Association's Chittenden Brook Hut. The hut is fully winterized (temp set at a constant 60) and has a full kitchen with gas cook stove. Water must be brought from creek and boiled. Bathroom is a long drop outhouse just up the hill. There are two sleeping beds/couches by the heater in the main room and a separate bunk room with multiple sets of bunks. Bunks have mattress but sleeping bag is required (see note above about indoor temperature).

We'll meet Friday at the Chittenden Brook camp ground parking area (gate is closed for winter) and skin to the hut (about 2 miles) and make dinner together and plan the next day. Saturday morning we'll skin over to check out Brandon Gap (about 2 miles). Brandon Gap has three ski zones, ranging from mellow to steep and challenging. Which zones we ski will depend on group make up and interest. We'll eat a trail lunch so we can do multiple laps and perhaps check out multiple zones, then skin back to the hut for dinner. Sunday morning we'll pack trail lunches, clean up the hut and check out. After skinning back to our cars we'll drive over to the Brandon Gap parking area and spend the morning skinning and skiing.
