Family President's Day Calumet Winter Weekend, West Ossipee, NH

Family Date: Fri February 15, 2019 - Sun February 17, 2019

Join AMC Family Outings for a fun relaxed Winter Weekend roughly 2 ½ hours north of Boston at Calumet lodge & cabins. On the edge of Lake Ossipee, Calumet offers hiking, snowshoeing, tubing, ice skating, x-c skiing at our doorstep, and optional DH skiing nearby. Adults relax while kids build snowmen and snow angels and play outdoor basketball and broom ball at the covered pavilion. This weekend includes accommodations, all meals, activities, & down time for kids & adults. Saturday evening, there is a campfire w/singing & stories on the beach.

Accommodations are rustic comfortable. The lodge has a lounge, kitchen, bathrooms with showers on the first floor which is where the group shares our meals and down time. The 2nd floor sleeps up to 22 (three bedrooms for 2, 8, and 12) in bunk-style firm beds. The sleeping areas are co-ed, so families can stay together. Bring your sleeping bags or sheets and blankets, pillow and towels. The cabins are insulated and heated and sleep up to ten (four bunk beds and two single beds). Those staying in the cabins have their choice of the bathrooms in the lodge or separate heated bathrooms. Meals are simple, hearty, and delicious. Everyone helps cook, prep and clean-up.

$115 for adults in the Retreat lodge or $95 in cabins. Kids 7 - 21 years enjoy a reduced "kid" rate of $85. Family President's Day Weekend at AMC's Noble View Outdoor Center in the Pioneer Valley, about 1-1/2 hours west of Boston. Activities include hiking, snow shoeing, x-c skiing, and family 'snow fun' like sledding or making snow people! The accommodations are rustic, but comfortable and cozy, heated by wood stoves. The twin beds have mattresses, but we bring pillows, sheets, and blankets or sleeping bags. We need to be flexible regarding sleeping arrangements which may be co-ed to keep families together and some kids will be in sleeping bags on the floor. A full bath house with hot showers are within a short walk from the cabin. We all help with meal prep and clean-up in our communal/family style kitchen and dining area. $90/person includes 2 breakfasts, 1 dinner and lunch style fixings/snacks throughout the day. AMC Medawisla Lodge and Cabins School Vacation Week, Greenville, ME

Join a small group of families at AMC's newest Medewisla Lodge and Cabins in Greenville, ME Monday thru Thursday of School Vacation Week. Enjoy private lakefront cabins w/shared bathhouse (w/shower) and toasty warm woodstove. Small group of families. Drive in location. Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe extensive trail network just steps away from our cabins. Group cooking and full service combo.

We will stay in four private lakerfront cabins with shared bathhouse with shower, each sleeping 5 - 6 people, each with two bedrooms with either queen or twin beds, and a living room with double futon. We anticipate one or two families per cabin, depending on family size (will need to be flexible). All cabins have electric LED lighting, and a woodstove (ADA accessible cabins have propane stoves). Linens are provided, including pillowcases, sheets, and towels. Our cabins have a kitchenette and we will cook as a group one dinner and two breakfasts and lunches. Our second night, Tuesday night, we will enjoy "full service" eating dinner in the main Lodge as well as breakfast the next morning and trail lunch will be provided for Wednesday.

Medawisla (the Abenaki word for loon) is part of AMC's Maine Wilderness Lodges network. The Lodge & Cabins are "off the grid" by the shore of Second Roach Pond, on 70,000 acres of forestland permanently conserved by AMC as part of its Maine Woods Initiative. AMC has completely rebuilt this sporting camp first opened at this location in 1953. The main or Central lodge includes dining room, sitting area, deck, and sauna.

Family ski weekend based at the comfortable but rustic Pinestead Farm Lodge in Franconia, NH. We have several simple "suites" of rooms with shared bath and kitchen facilities. Canceled: Family Snowshoe Overnight to Windblown East Glade Shelter (w/Woodburning Stove), New Ipswich, NH

We will snowshoe the Windblown XC center trails approximately one mile from our cars to overnight at the Windblown East Glade shelter. The shelter is a 3-sided Adirondack shelter, but with the welcoming addition of a woodburning stove, a well-kept outhouse, and a firepit as well as breath-taking views to the east. After arriving we have the option to summit Barrett Mountain (1,853'), a bit less then 2 miles round trip.

We will make group dinner and enjoy evening smores around the fire pit before hunkering down for a cold winter night. We'll do breakfast in the morning and then enjoy a leisurely walk back out.

BE AWARE: overnight temps may likely be in the single digits. appropriate winter gear is essential including winter sleeping bags- usually rated for 0 degrees* (we may be able to help with bags and snowshoes). For obvious safety reasons, screening for the trip- gear, experience, fitness- will be strict. * equipment requirements may be adjusted slightly with the nearing forecast. The trip will be cancelled if conditions are extreme and pose increased safety concerns.

This is a half century old hidden jewel …in fact it is called Hart's location and the cabin ( Sub Sig) is toasty warm and comfy, but rustic w/outhouse and hauled in water. We will plan a hike choice both Saturday and Sunday as well as group breakfasts and a supper prepared by us all on Saturday evening. Trip is recommended for families with kids ages 7 and up.
