Discover our local history through stories of days gone by. Imagine 1642. The Nashaway Algonquin Indians invite you to settle here along the Nashua …... Options for shorter (~ 1 hr) or longer walk (~ 3 hrs) of your choice. The longer walk is a relatively easy 5.5 mile hike much of which is along the Nashua River. Dress for the weather and bring a rain jacket. Bring water and snacks and/or lunch.

Walk followed by dinner/social hour at Woodman's Seafood Restaurant, in nearby Essex, at around 2:00pm. Meet 11:00am, at Crane Beach parking lot. Parking Fee. From Route 128, exit 14 in Gloucester, take Route 133 West for 5 miles. Turn right on Northgate Road. Then, turn right on Argilla Road, follow to beach.

No Misery at Mt. Misery. Family Walk in Lincoln, MA

Family Date: Sat November 17, 2018

On this 1.5 mile family walk at Mt. Misery in Lincoln, MA we will explore the beautiful forests near the Sudbury River that are part of this mis-named conservation land. The walk is Saturday November 17 from 1:30 - 3 pm and is suitable for four years old and older. Come prepared for fun with lots of roots on the path and beautiful hemlock forests.

Please dress appropriately. The trails may be wet so boots or waterproof shoes are suggested. Bring water and snacks as appropriate for your kids (and your) needs.

The walk is sponsored by AMC Boston Family Outings http://amcboston.org/committees/family. Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be an AMC member to participate.

Habitat Audubon Sanctuary, Belmont - Celebrate the Solstice Walk

The Winter Solstice arrives in just 5 days. We'll take a slow-paced nature walk through forests and fields and around a pond focusing on plant ID of bare trees, naked shrubs and winter weeds as the natural world prepares for winter. We'll also talk about fun and interesting natural history about the Winter Solstice as well as about the plants we see. 1:00-4:00pm. From Rte. 2, Exit 59 go west on Rte. 60/Pleasant St. 0.6 miles. Right onto Clifton St, first left on Fletcher Rd, bear left at fork, next left on Juniper Rd. 0.2 miles to Sanctuary at #10 Juniper Rd. Steady rain or heavy snow cancels. Boot Boutwell is a freelance itinerant naturalist who teaches and leads nature walks for Mass Audubon - Habitat, The New England Wild Flower Society, the Winchester Public Schools, the Friends of the Middlesex Fells, the Appalachian Mountain Club and other organizations. These walks are sponsored by the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC). They are free of charge for AMC members and cost $1 for non-members.

AMC Family Outings Sixth Annual New Years Celebration and Equipment Sale Sunday January 6th at the Thoreau Outing Center at Camp Thoreau in Concord, MA. Come anytime from 10 am to 3 pm. We'll celebrate the New Years with coffee/donuts in the morning and lunch included at 11:30 am with our welcome in the New Year Celebratory cake. Options for snowshoe and XC Ski clinics, walks and hikes throughout the day as well as crafts for the kids, sledding, and, of course, lots of great equipment at prices you cannot beat. Activities and fun for all ages and abilities.

Everyone welcome. Members and non-members alike. This is a free event!

Nagog Pond (Acton) & Sarah Doublet (Littleton)

9:30am-2:30pm. Meet at Grassy Hill parking lot off Nagog Hill Rd, Acton (see links below), S side of Nagog Hill Rd. From Rte.2, exit Rte.27 N toward Acton for 1.1mi., L Nagog Hill Rd. for 1.2mi to Grassy Pond pkg. area on L. This 7½ mi. route wanders through a portion of Acton's Nagog Hill area, hugs the shore of Nagog Pond, loops through the hilly Sarah Doublet area in Littleton where we plan to have lunch and offer an optional excursion to Fort Pond via a short spur trail. Our return covers the remaining portion of Nagog Pond. Snowshoes may be necessary. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.

Family Calumet Junior (kids 8 & under) Winter Weekend in West Ossipee, NH

Join AMC Family Outings for a fun relaxed Winter Weekend roughly 2 ½ hours north of Boston at Calumet lodge & cabins. This trip is targeted to families with younger children, 8 & under, but kids all ages are welcome AMC members and non-members alike. On the edge of Lake Ossipee, Calumet offers hiking, snowshoeing, tubing, ice skating, and x-c skiing at our doorstep, and optional DH skiing nearby. Adults relax while kids build snowmen and snow angels and play outdoor basketball and broom ball at the covered pavillion. This weekend includes accommodations, all meals, activities, & down time for kids & adults. Saturday evening, there is a campfire w/singing & stories on the beach.

Accommodations are rustic comfortable. The lodge has a lounge, kitchen, bathrooms with showers on the first floor which is where the group shares our meals and down time. The 2nd floor sleeps up to 22 (three bedrooms for 2, 8, and 12) in bunk-style firm beds. The sleeping areas are co-ed, so families can stay together. Bring your sleeping bags or sheets and blankets, pillow and towels. The cabins are insulated and heated and sleep up to ten (four bunk beds and two single beds). Those staying in the cabins have their choice of the bathrooms in the lodge or separate heated bathrooms. Group meals are simple, hearty, and delicious. Everyone helps cook, prep and clean-up.

Family President's Day Weekend at AMC Noble View Outdoor Center, Russell, MA

Family Date: Fri February 15, 2019 - Sun February 17, 2019

Family President's Day Weekend at AMC's Noble View Outdoor Center in the Pioneer Valley, about 1-1/2 hours west of Boston. Activities include hiking, snow shoeing, x-c skiing, and family 'snow fun' like sledding or making snow people! The accommodations are rustic, but comfortable and cozy, heated by wood stoves. The twin beds have mattresses, but we bring pillows, sheets, and blankets or sleeping bags. We need to be flexible regarding sleeping arrangements which may be co-ed to keep families together and some kids will be in sleeping bags on the floor. A full bath house with hot showers are within a short walk from the cabin. We all help with meal prep and clean-up in our communal/family style kitchen and dining area. $90/person includes 2 breakfasts, 1 dinner and lunch style fixings/snacks throughout the day.
