LWCF campaign kickoff

Young Members Date: Sat April 21, 2018

Join AMC Boston's Young Members and Conservation Committees for an (almost) Earth Day kickoff of our Land and Water Conservation Fund campaign! The LWCF is a hugely important program that has helped to create many of the outdoor recreation spaces AMC members enjoy. Without action from Congress, it will expire on September 30, 2018, so we are working to encourage our legislators to take action and preserve our outdoor spaces. Join us to learn more about the LWCF, send a postcard to your legislator, and enjoy some pizza with other AMC Boston members!

We will be meeting in small groups in various LWCF-funded areas throughout Boston and walking together to AMC's new headquarters in Charlestown. The pizza lunch and presentation by AMC Boston's conservation chair Joan Halloran will begin at 1:00.

Middlesex Fells

Young Members Date: Sun April 22, 2018

Celebrate the arrival of reliable (?) good weather with Mike and Marker the beagle with a short but strenuous hike along the Skyline Trail in the Middlesex Fells Reservation. We will meet at the Sheepfold parking area, at the far western edge of the upper lot (by the sign posts) and proceed down the Skyline trail where short rocky scrambles lead to excellent views of Boston and the surrounding area, culminating at Wright's Tower at the park's southern edge. We will loop around and follow the reservoir back to the parking area. The hike is relatively short (3-4) miles and should take about 2-3 hours. Appropriate for most fitness levels but there are some short uphill scrambles. Be sure to bring water and wear clothing you can move around in (especially shoes, nothing open toed, there will be rocks and possible mud).
