Family Snowshoe Overnight to Windblown East Glade Shelter (w/Woodburning Stove), New Ipswich, NH

Family Date: Sat February 23, 2019 - Sun February 24, 2019

We will snowshoe the Windblown XC center trails approximately one mile from our cars to overnight at the Windblown East Glade shelter. The shelter is a 3-sided Adirondack shelter, but with the welcoming addition of a woodburning stove, a well-kept outhouse, and a firepit as well as breath-taking views to the east. After arriving we have the option to summit Barrett Mountain (1,853'), a bit less then 2 miles round trip.

We will make group dinner and enjoy evening smores around the fire pit before hunkering down for a cold winter night. We'll do breakfast in the morning and then enjoy a leisurely walk back out.

BE AWARE: overnight temps may likely be in the single digits. appropriate winter gear is essential including winter sleeping bags- usually rated for 0 degrees* (we may be able to help with bags and snowshoes). For obvious safety reasons, screening for the trip- gear, experience, fitness- will be strict. * equipment requirements may be adjusted slightly with the nearing forecast. The trip will be cancelled if conditions are extreme and pose increased safety concerns.

If you are adventurous, want to enjoy the splendor of winter outdoors (maybe freeze your tush of a little) and are properly equipped, come join us. $50pp includes accommodations, dinner, breakfast, and your Windblown trail fees. Harvard Cabin Family XC & Dowhill Ski Weekend, Jackson, NH

Family Date: Fri March 1, 2019 - Sun March 3, 2019

After a social Friday evening at Harvard Cabin (https://www.outdoors.org/lodging-camping/camps-cabins/harvard), and a shared breakfast on Saturday, one group will set out to downhill ski at Wildcat, Attitash, or Cranmore, based on snow conditions and group preference. Another group will hit Jackson or Bear Notch or Great Glen for cross-country skiing.

Sunday will likely be a shorter day that may include skiing (xc nordic or downhill) and/or another winter activity (e.g., inner-tube sledding) based on conditions and group preferences.

Harvard Cabin is a rustic, but heated, structure with communal eating and cooking space, an outhouse, and cold running water. Most notably, this structure has communal sleeping loft (sleeping bags/pads on a shared floor space) accessible by a ladder.

Participants will help with meal preparation and clean up. This will include preparation of Saturday breakfast, happy hour hors d'oeuvres, and dinner, as well as breakfast on Sunday. No dinner is provided on Friday night. You are responsible for your own lunch and daytime snacks.

This trip is geared towards families with children ages 6-12.
