Calumet Family Fall Hiking Weekend in Ossipee, NH

Family Date: Fri October 12, 2018 - Sun October 14, 2018

Join AMC Family Outings for a fun, active and relaxing Fall Weekend roughly 2 ½ hours north of Boston at Calumet lodge & cabins. On the edge of Lake Ossipee, Calumet offers a nice base to explore the White Mountains. We will do 2 hikes, each approximately 3+ miles with ~900-1000 feet of elevation gain/loss. Kids must be able to hike on their own or be carried. This weekend includes accommodations, all meals, activities, & down time for kids & adults. Campfire on the beach with s'mores Saturday night, weather permitting.

Accommodations are rustic comfortable. The lodge has a lounge, kitchen, bathrooms with showers on the first floor which is where the group shares our meals and down time. The 2nd floor sleeps up to 22 (three bedrooms for 2, 8, and 12) in bunk-style firm beds. The sleeping areas are co-ed, so families can stay together. Bring your sleeping bags or sheets and blankets, pillow and towels. The cabins are insulated and heated and sleep up to ten (four bunk beds and two single beds). Those staying in the cabins have their choice of the bathrooms in the lodge or separate heated bathrooms. Meals are simple, hearty, and delicious. Everyone helps cook, prep and clean-up.

$115 for adults in the Retreat lodge or $95 in cabins. Kids 7 - 21 years enjoy a reduced "kid" rate of $85. Kids six and under enjoy a reduced "kid" rate of $45 including all meals Friday evening to Sunday lunch.

Harvard Cabin Fall Fun

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Fri October 12, 2018 - Sun October 14, 2018

This is a joint H/B (Hiking/Backpacking) and YM (Young Members) Boston chapter trip. Adults of all ages are welcome. Using the Harvard Cabin (the low one, on Rt. 16) as our base, we will set out on hikes in the Pinkham Notch or nearby areas of the White Mountains. This rustic cabin has an upstairs sleeping loft (sleeping bags/pads on a shared floor space), an outhouse, cold running water. Simple but fun! Exact hikes TBD depending on leaders and participants interests, latest weather/trail conditions reports, and participants abilities. On Saturday, we will offer two options if the group fills: one moderate/easier 4,000 footer mountain and one moderate/more strenuous 4,000 footer. One of the hikes will be led by an H/B leader and one will be led by a YM leader. On Sunday, we might go for another 4,000'er or often we opt for a shorter hike on the way home (perhaps a 52 With A View peak). You will help us as we prepare breakfast, a post-hike happy hour and dinner on Saturday and a breakfast on Sunday. Trip fee of $80/members and $85/non-members includes two breakfasts, one dinner, and happy hour snacks (planned and shopped for by the leaders, but prepared and cleaned up with the help of all participants).
