Young Member's Summer Camp Weekend - Hiking at AMC's Cold River Camp

Young Members Date: Fri June 8, 2018 - Sun June 10, 2018

Join AMC Boston Young Members as we kick off the Summer with a weekend of outdoor fun at AMC's Cold River Camp in North Chatham, NH. In true Summer Camp style, a variety of hiking and other activities will be offered each day as we explore the Evans Notch region of the White Mountains. At least 3 hiking options provided each day. Specific offerings will be determined by leaders that weekend, but possibilities include: Baldface Loop (10 miles, 3000ft); Caribou Mountain Loop (7 miles, 1990ft); and Blueberry-Speckled Mountain Loop, (8.6 Miles, 2200ft) in the immediate area, and possibly others farther afield. Hikes will be offered each day for all experience levels.

Afterwards, cool off with a swim, or return to camp to relax in the main Lodge where dinner will be served. Enjoy socializing after dinner around the bonfire, or over other activities in the Lodge.

Explore this beautiful, less visited section of the White Mountains, while enjoying the comforts of AMC's Cold River Camp with two nights lodging in shared cabins (in-cabin fireplace/stove), with central bath and shower facilities. Hot breakfast served each morning, along with Saturday night dinner and happy hour snacks. Trail lunches also provided each morning.

Bay Circuit Trail Run Section 1A (Rowley)

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Sat June 9, 2018

Join this 7.9mi (option for 12.4mi) run exploring Boston's "Outer Emerald Necklace!" The Bay Circuit Trail (BCT) links 200 miles of readily-accessible nature in the outer Boston suburbs. This section through Rowley is bookended by two big hills with good views. In between is the "Rowley Gap", a section where on off-road route is pending and the BCT connects on road through this historic small town. Our pace will be about 9-10 minutes/mile, with a focus on enjoying scenery and company on the move rather than a hard workout. Some experience running at or near this distance is required; trail experience (hiking or running) is encouraged, but not required for strong runners. This is a great way to discover the world of trails. Other than the two big hills near the start and end, the terrain is gentle and largely non-technical. This point-to-point route includes 3.5 miles of trail, 1.8 miles of sidewalk, 1.1 miles on quiet roads and 1.5 miles on main road with no sidewalk; the optional extra loop is 4.5 miles entirely on trail. We'll start very early morning to avoid traffic and finish in about 75 minutes for the main run, two hours including the extra loop. Please be prepared to help with spotting transportation at our endpoint.

Webster Cliff Trail to Mount Jackson (B3B) (4K)

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Sat June 16, 2018

Come join us for a hike of Mount Jackson via the Webster Cliff Trail, offering nice views of Crawford notch from ledges along the Cliffs and, if the weather cooperates, panoramic views of the southern Presidentials and Mount Washington from the exposed peaks of Mount Webster (3910 ft) and Mount Jackson (4052 ft). Mount Carrigain Run

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Sat June 16, 2018

Mount Carrigain is deservedly renowned for the fantastic views from its summit tower in the heart of the Pemi. We'll run up, spend a few minutes at the summit, and run on down before the afternoon is old. We'll cover about 10.6 miles and climb 3450 feet out-and-back. Our pace will be about 12-15 minutes/mile on easier terrain, slowing to a 20-minute power-hike on steep uphills or very technical sections. The priority is enjoying scenery and company rather than a hard workout. Some experience with trail running at or near this distance is required.
