Fast-paced, Show & Go Conditioning Hike Series in Middlesex Fells (5/30)

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Thu May 30, 2019

Join the leaders for an aggressively-paced hike of the Middlesex Fells. We'll meet at the eastern edge of the Cross Fells Trail (Gate 58) by 5:50 pm to start hiking promptly at 6.00 pm. Each week of this 'Show and Go' hike series, we'll tackle variations of the Rock Circuit and surrounding trails in the eastern section of the Fells. We'll hike until dark (bring a headlamp) at a fast pace to get our heart rates up. Sorry, but no dogs or children are allowed on this hike. This hike does not require registration, but to help us manage group size expectations, please register for the hike if you can. For those that register, we'll send out a reminder email the day before the hike. At a minimum, please bring a pack that can fit an extra layer, rain gear, headlamp, water, and snacks. You will be asked to sign an AMC Waiver at the start of the hike.

Mt Washington: Alpine Exploration from AMC's Lakes Of The Clouds Hut

Forty Plus Date: Fri May 31, 2019 - Sun June 2, 2019

Spend three days, two nights exploring Mt Washington's Alpine zone as spring arrives. We will hike up to AMC's Lakes of the Clouds Hut on the shoulder of Mt Washington. We will enjoy this uniquely situated hut while exploring the summit, the alpine garden, and surrounding peaks.
We hope to leave plenty of time to savor the expansive views of this beautifully harsh environment and explore the historic buildings of Mt Washington's summit.
We will climb Mt Monroe nearby and on the last day hike the ridge line out, summiting Mt Eisenhower before we descend.

Boston Chapter Bicycle Rally

Bicycling Date: Sat June 8, 2019

The 41st annual AMC Boston Chapter Bicycle Rally will be held at Verrill Farm in Concord on Saturday, June 8, 2019. It is a wonderful opportunity for cyclists of all levels to get together to begin the summer bike season. Come help us celebrate.

This year there will be rides from 16 to 50 miles on beautiful rolling terrain. After the rides, riders can enjoy an outdoor happy hour with appetizers, beer, wine, and soft drinks followed by dinner.

Dinner will be served under a tent on the grounds. We will have a sumptuous dinner with vegetarian option.

Blue Hills: Family Skyline Loop Hike, Milton, MA (BHP LEVEL 3)

Join AMC Boston Families on a BHP level 3 hike of approximately 3 miles. We will depart the Houghton Pond area on the red dot trail to Buck Hill, then return via the North Skyline trail. Red dot hikes in the Blue Hills cover rugged, hilly terrain providing a more challenging hike. This hike is appropriate for school-aged children ages 7-12+, preferably with some recent hiking experience. The Houghton Pond recreation area is a possible post-hike family activity with a playground, concession stand, swimming and picnic area.

Cardigan High Cabin Family Summer Hike and overnight

Family Date: Sat June 15, 2019 - Sun June 16, 2019

Join a small group of AMC Families at Cardigan High Cabin for the night. Hike in two miles with 1450' elevation gain. The cabin is just under a half mile from the summit of Mt. Cardigan (3,155') w/great views.
Begin at Cardigan Lodge and hike 2 miles (1,450 elevation gain) to Cardigan High Cabin. Drop overnight gear and continue to the summit. Return to the cabin for games/activities and meal prep. The cabin has a composting toilet and wood stove for heat. Sunday hike back to Cardigan Lodge.
The cabin has 12 bunks/mattresses (no pillows)in the main room. There is a dry sink, two burner propane stove, and woodstove to keep the cabin toasty warm. There is no electricity or running water.

Ipswich River Paddle

Paddling Date: Sun June 16, 2019

Meet at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning at the Topsfield Fairgrounds PARKING LOT Entrance on Rt. 1 in Topsfield MA. If you are coming from the south, take Rt. 95 to Rt. 1 in Topsfield. Continue driving north on Rt. 1. You go down a long hill to the bottom where Rt. 1 crosses the Ipswich River. It is not obvious that you have crossed the Ipswich River, look carefully. Immediately ahead on the right is the Fair Grounds Parking Lot Entrance. You should see a number of vehicles there with canoes on the roof.
We will shuttle to the launch, which is on Rowley Bridge road. Then we shuttle the vehicles to the take out which is at the Bradley Palmer State Forest.
We get on the river by 10:00 am and take out about 3:30 to 4:00 pm.
Bring: canoe or kayak, lunch, drink, water, sun screen, bug repellent, EYEGLASSES RETAINER STRAP, sun hat, life jacket
If you need a boat, please let the leaders know ASAP. If you want to car pool please let the leaders know ASAP.

Franconia Ridge Loop with stay at Greenleaf Hut

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Sat July 13, 2019 - Sun July 14, 2019

Join the leaders for a classic White Mountains loop with a stay at the AMC's Greenleaf Hut. On day 1, we'll hike up Falling Waters Trail, passing many waterfalls, and then along the Franconia Ridge to Little Haystack Mountain. We'll then continue on the Franconia Ridge Trail, which is above treeline and part of the Appalachian Trail (AT), over to Mt. Lincoln and Mt. Lafayette, two NH 4,000 footers. From Mt Lafayette, we'll hike down to Greenleaf Hut for dinner. On day 2, we'll have breakfast at the Hut and will either finish the loop, by hiking out via Old Bridle Path, or re-hike the ridge, depending on the group. Presidential Ridge Hike with Stay at Lakes of the Clouds Hut

A unique opportunity to stay at the Lakes of the Clouds Hut, near Mt. Washington. Come join the leaders on this fun hike on the presidential ridge. We'll start early on Saturday morning on the Crawford Path Trail, which is the oldest maintained footpath in the United States. We will hike up to Mt Pierce then across open ledges with magnificent views in all directions to Mt. Eisenhower, which again has excellent views, then on to Mt. Monroe, passing over Mt. Franklin on the way and ending at Lakes of the Clouds Hut for dinner. On Day 2 we will have breakfast and then head out again on the Crawford Path to Mt. Bicycle Tour of Lake Champlain Island 5th Annual

All the charm of Lake Champlain Islands in 35-65 flat miles over scenic Vermont pavé roads (read: some unpaved sections), country stores, Adirondack & Green Mountains views, & dips in refreshing lake water.

The trip has all ingredients for relaxing yet active weekend: several stops at state parks, scenic views at every turn, multiple stops for locally fresh food, & frequent beach stops for opportunities to dip in the water. Plan on three days of riding: Friday morning through Sunday afternoon.

On one of the days we will cross into Canada: bring your passport & appropriate visa for non US citizens. The Inn at the Isles is rustic with basic amenities & services, similar to a two-star motel. Food is fresh, water view is beautiful, & hosts are friendly.

The Old Schoolhouse is a charming hostel of thee old classrooms with no more than six people same gender, twin beds, no bunks, blackboards, books, gracious hostess, & delicious breakfast.

Labor Day Cycling Weekend in the Berkshires

Join us for 25-50+ mile led road rides over scenic, hilly country roads on both sides of the scenic Taconic Range along NY-Mass border (10-13 mph easy pace, but intermediate hilly terrain). Previous group cycling experience in hilly terrain highly recommended, though not necessary for strong flatland cyclists. $238-$288 per person includes 3 nights lodging in a relaxing country home, 3 breakfasts, 2 happy hours & dinners Saturday & Sunday (meals fit for a foodie!).
