Family Ski Weekend at Pinestead Farm Lodge in Franconia, NH

Family Date: Fri March 8, 2019 - Sun March 10, 2019

Family ski weekend based at the comfortable but rustic Pinestead Farm Lodge in Franconia, NH, a Family Outings Favorite. We have several simple "suites" of rooms with shared bath and kitchen facilities. Breakfast and dinner are group events at the lodge. Lunch materials are provided. Pinestead is 10 minutes from Cannon Mountain and 5 minutes from the XC ski trails at the Franconia Inn. Bretton Woods Alpine and XC areas are about 45 minutes away. There's a sledding hill right behind the lodge (may need some "engineering") and another one at the nearby Franconia Inn where ice skating (for a fee) may also be possible. Group hikes to Bridal Veil Falls or Flume Gorge sometimes happen. The farm has chickens and cows and a small play structure. Suitable for kids all ages and skill levels. $110/adult; $100/kid (ages 3-7); children under 3 free on air mattress or in a crib.

Sessions meet Sundays (Feb 24-Mar 24) from 5-7 pm at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club.

Fees: Students (instruction and pool time): $110 AMC members/$130 non-members, Recreation (pool time only, no instruction): $60 AMC members/$80 non-members. Boat Rental:$50 for the series.

Boston Rock Climbing Pro

Mountaineering Date: Wed March 13, 2019 - Sun May 12, 2019

Rock climbing provides the exhilaration of conquering a crag, but also the puzzle of figuring out a sequence of moves to climb a difficult section. You can experience the rewards and challenges of rock climbing by taking the Boston Mountaineering Committee's Rock Climbing Program! This program covers the basic skills for outdoor rock climbing. The emphasis of the course is learning to safely follow a leader on multipitch trad climbs. We cover: toprope anchor building, belaying, ascending, rappelling, and more. No prior experience is necessary. You will learn from our experienced volunteer instructors and meet other aspiring and enthusiastic rock climbers! The program will have two indoor sessions: an optional information session on March 13 (tentative) from 7-8pm, and a required Knots night on March 27 (tentative) from 7-9pm. The program weekends are held in the Blue Hills reservation. The first program weekend is April 6 and 7 (both days required); you may attend either day of the remaining program weekends: April 13/14, April 27/28, and May 4/5. If you do not have a climbing harness or helmet (required), they may be borrowed at no cost (with a deposit). Registration is by application, due by the Sunday after the optional information session. AMC Advanced Skills Workshop (AWS)

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Fri March 15, 2019 - Sun March 17, 2019

The AMC Advanced Skills Workshop (AWS) is designed to introduce experienced winter hikers and climbers to the basic skills required for climbing high altitude mountains such as Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, and beyond. The AWS topics will include roped team travel on a moderate to high angle snow slopes and glaciers, ice axe use and self-arrest, advanced belay systems, crevasse rescue, snow anchors, and high-altitude medical issues and medications. The workshop base camp and lectures will be out of Harvard Cabin, and our daily outdoor adventures will take place near Pinkham Lodge/ Joe Dodge Lodge along the Sherburne Ski Trail or lower slopes of Tuckerman's Ravine depending on the snow conditions at the time of the workshop. Full Winter Gear is required and a comprehensive gear list will be provided to all accepted participants; however, please note that you must have 4-season above treeline experience, double boots or Leader accepted single-layer mountaineering boots, ice axe, crampons, carabiners, helmet and harness. Leaders will provide all ropes, specialized pulleys and snow anchors. In addition, please note that you will need to come to class prepared with (1) Texas Sling and (2) prussiks. Assembling them will be described in detail in your mandatory pre-class readings in Freedom of the Hills or Selters, Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue. Mt Washington: Alpine Exploration from AMC's Lakes Of The Clouds Hut

Forty Plus Date: Fri May 31, 2019 - Sun June 2, 2019

Spend three days, two nights exploring Mt Washington's Alpine zone as spring arrives. We will hike up to AMC's Lakes of the Clouds Hut on the shoulder of Mt Washington. We will enjoy this uniquely situated hut while exploring the summit, the alpine garden, and surrounding peaks.
We hope to leave plenty of time to savor the expansive views of this beautifully harsh environment and explore the historic buildings of Mt Washington's summit.
We will climb Mt Monroe nearby and on the last day hike the ridge line out, summiting Mt Eisenhower before we descend.

Bicycle Tour of Lake Champlain Island 5th Annual

Bicycling Date: Fri August 16, 2019 - Sun August 18, 2019

All the charm of Lake Champlain Islands in 35-65 flat miles over scenic Vermont pavé roads (read: some unpaved sections), country stores, Adirondack & Green Mountains views, & dips in refreshing lake water.

The trip has all ingredients for relaxing yet active weekend: several stops at state parks, scenic views at every turn, multiple stops for locally fresh food, & frequent beach stops for opportunities to dip in the water. Plan on three days of riding: Friday morning through Sunday afternoon.

On one of the days we will cross into Canada: bring your passport & appropriate visa for non US citizens. The Inn at the Isles is rustic with basic amenities & services, similar to a two-star motel. Food is fresh, water view is beautiful, & hosts are friendly.

The Old Schoolhouse is a charming hostel of thee old classrooms with no more than six people same gender, twin beds, no bunks, blackboards, books, gracious hostess, & delicious breakfast.

Fall Foliage Waterfall Hike with stay at Zealand Falls Hut

Forty Plus Date: Sat October 5, 2019 - Sun October 6, 2019

Join us on this fall foliage hike to view Zealand Falls, Thoreau Falls, Ripley falls, and Aresthusa Falls. We will hike to AMC's rustic Zealand Hut by Zealand Falls enjoying a family style dinner (and breakfast the following day) cooked by the hut's "croo".
If we choose, we can hike up to Zeacliff for expansive views. The next day we tour the remaining cascades hiking approximately 11 miles out.
Each cascade is uniquely different. Thoreau falls tumbles far down the far reaching Pemigewasset Wilderness. Ripley Falls flows widely over smooth rock, Aresthusa falls is 140 feet tall, second tallest falls in NH, (only surpassed by the seasonal Dryad falls of the Mahoosuc range.) Bring your lunch and we can enjoy the views!
