A Snowy Naviagational Visit to Galehead Hut & Mountain

A Snowy Naviagational Visit to Galehead Hut & Mountain

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Sat March 24, 2018

This Intermediate-Advanced instructional hike is intended primarily for participants in the AMC Boston Winter Hiking Program, with a limited number of spots available for others.

We will hike both on and off trail from the Beaver Brook crossing on Rt.3 in Bethlehem, NH to the closed-but-still-beautiful Galehead Hut, on the edge of the Pemigewasset Wilderness. The emphasis throughout will be on techniques for navigating in winter conditions. On this hike, we will travel 11 miles over moderate, scenic terrain, and gain 2400' of elevation. Depending on group interest and time remaining, we will have the option to Summit Galehead Mountain (on the 4000 Footer List and with a great lookout point), adding 1 mile and 300' of elevation gain to the day's total.
